Fifteen Years

February 8, 2012

Its been 15 years since Notorious B.I.G.’s passing. In a time when Hip-Hop is valued more on the amount of asses shaking instead of lyrical content, the absence of acts like Biggie and Tupac are felt more heavily then before. I will never say Hip-Hop has died, but I will say Hip-Hop now has the mental capacity of a five year old with ADHD. So with that I’ll leave you with some of Biggie Smalls’ lines that have been most recycled by other rappers, those including Jay- Z (Squeeze 1st), Kanye West (All Falls Down), Fat Joe (I Won’t Tell), 50 Cent (I’m Suppose to Die Tonight), Tech N9NE (Keep On Keepin’ On) and so on.

“Gonna blast, squeeze first, ask questions last/ That’s how most of these so-called gangstas pass” - “Hypnotize” 1996

“On the road to riches and diamond rings/Real niggas do real things/Hangin’ wit’ the bitches is the song I sing/ Real niggas do real things” – “Real Niggaz” 1995

“Catch me if you can like the Gingerbread Man” -”Everyday Struggle” 1994

“Kick in the door, waving the four-four/ All you was, ’Poppa don’t hit me no more’” – “Kick In The Door” 1997

“That’s not all, MC’S have the gall/ To pray and pray for my downfall” – “My Downfall” 1997
